Marcellin Desboutin - Il violinista
Il violinista
Other versions exist of this painting by Desboutin, which portrays his friend Herald Dumas; also made by Desboutin, but in a smaller format than the large painting now housed at the Musee de la Ville de Moulins. The painting "Le Violiniste" was featured in the first Impressionist exhibition in 1874, which was held at Nadar's studio, and was later exhibited in the second Impressionist exhibition as well. In 1877 it was also exhibited at the Musée de Moulins, where it was acquired, thus becoming the first in a series of Desboutin's paintings which would later be collected by the museum, forming the most important nucleus of Desboutin's works in France.
