Fèlix Bracquemond - Terrasse à Villa Brancas
Terrasse à Villa Brancas This work by Bracquemond depicts the artist's wife as she paints a portrait of her sister at their villa in Sèvres, a town already famous for pottery and porcelain, where Bracquemond worked on decorating pottery and for which he served as artistic director. Considered one of Bracquemond's masterpieces, it is perhaps the best known of his works, also unanimously regarded as the most impressionistic. The scene, set on a number of planes, slowly blurs thanks to the different biting patterns on the copper plate, creating a strong pictorial impact. The lights and shadows that pervade this work render the whole scene magical and perfectly integrated with the surrounding nature, creating a sense of intimate and relaxed serenity.
