Fèlix Bracquemond - Servizio di piatti
Servizio di piatti The exhibition itinerary includes four plates from the popular set made by Bracquemond for the prestige Rousseau ceramic factory, whose fame was due to the influence of Japanism in France. In 1866 Eugène Rousseau asked Bracquemond to draw the decorative pattern for the set, and the artist etched plant and animal subjects inspired in Japanese prints. Made by Lebeuf et Millet (L.M. et Cie), the set won a gold medal at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in 1867, a year in which prestige in the decorative arts belonged to ceramics. This set, later referred to as Rousseau, is unanimously considered the first example of Japonisme in the field of ceramics, obtaining as much success as to mark the beginning of a fashion that totally changed the taste for ceramics, not only in France. The Musée d'Orsay holds a complete series of the Rousseau set; in 1988, with the supervision of Philippe Thiébaud, the museum devoted an important thematic exhibition to these porcelains.
