The third exhibition of 1877
April 1877 - 6, rue Le Peletier - Paris The third exhibition was organised in a flat on Rue Le Peletier. At the first and second exhibitions, journalistic critics called the group of artists 'Independent' or 'Intransigent'. On this occasion, the group accepted and embraced the term 'Impressionists'. The painter Gustave Caillebotte, a newcomer who had the money to finance the event, curated the entire exhibition. Caillebotte also proved to be a skilful mediator, managing to bring together the strong temperaments of the artists involved. As a result of his generous support, this edition was called the Caillebotte exhibition.
