The fourth exhibition of 1879
10 April - 11 May 1879 - 28, avenue de l'Opéra - Paris On the poster advertising the Impressionist exhibition, the names of the three artists Marie Bracquemond, Mary Cassatt and Berthe Morisot did not appear. Degas was also against this decision because Mary Cassatt was a close pupil of his. Officially, therefore, only the names of the sixteen artists were published. Berthe Morisot was Manet's favourite pupil and wife of Manet's younger brother Eugène. Her participation in the activities of the Impressionist group was not well received by the painter who preferred his pupils to stay away from the group. On this occasion, Cézanne, Renoir, Morisot, Guillaumin and Sisley did not participate. He increased the number of visitors to over 15,000. It was a success, considering the fact that the first edition had gathered 4,000. New artists participated including Marie Bracquemond, Paul Gauguin and the Italian Federico Zandomeneghi.
