The legacy of Impressionism
After the Impressionist hurricane, art would never be the same again, and new artists would come forward, appropriating the Impressionists' quick and essence-oriented way of painting in their own manner. The third section of the exhibition focuses on this particular ferment, featuring artists who helped reinforce the revolutionary message of Impressionism. Painting en plein air would become an inescapable way of painting, as would the use and study of unusual themes, and one saw the emergence of followers of the new movement around the world, giving rise to experimentation, provocative choices and explorations that were previously unimaginable. This impulse towards novelty would liberate the art world, spreading the vision of freedom and provocation from which art as we know it today has sprung.
