Édouard Manet - - Vaso di Fiori
Vaso di Fiori
This painting, carefully studied by art historian Lionello Puppi, who has reconstructed its collecting routes, is part of the collection of the Romanian Prince Stirbey, who lived in Paris and that is mentioned on the back of the painting. The Prince was a great collector, especially of sculptures by Carpeaux, later donated to the Louvre museum, but he was also De Bellio's father-in-law, a great enthusiast of Impressionist works and whose major collection represents the most important part of the Musee Marmottan-Monet, also including Monet's iconic work “Impression, Soleil levant”. The painting in the exhibition is an oil on cardboard, just like many Manet's works, and belongs to the interesting series of still lifes, especially flowers, to which the master dedicated himself during a specific period of his life, being part of the Vente Stirbey catalog, held in the 1930s and for which Puppi gives a reference.
